Wyandottes are a favorite amongst backyard flock owners. They are dependable egg layers, have an easygoing nature, have hardiness, and the great variety of beautiful feather patterns available. Silver Penciled, Golden Laced, Blue, Columbian and White Wyandottes are all rather rare.
The lovely Java is a critically endangered (which is strange) old dual-purpose breed developed in America from Asian stock, and they are the oldest American breed aside from the Dominique. Javas have large single combs, and sport black beaks, shanks and toes. They are calm and bear confinement well, but are also excellent foragers.
Malays are an aggressive breed. They have sleek, scrawny bodies but strong and sharp beaks and claws. They are good "watchchickens" and were used for cockfighting. They have extreme perverseness and don't hesitate to do what they want to do. Malays are single-minded and bold.
